"Laurel with a Moral"
We appreciate your purchase of "Laurel with a Moral" and hope
you'll be pleased with the positive values and moral lessons
these stories convey. Please let us know what you think about
this CD and if you would like to see more disks of this type.
Installation Notes
Your "Laurel with a Moral" CD-ROM contains both application files
and movie files which are used by the application. There are two
versions of "Laurel" included. LAURELX.EXE is an application
designed to run on lower-powered machines such as 386 SX and DX
computers. LAURELY.EXE is the same program designed to work on
486- and Pentium-based computers. The only difference between the
two versions is the size of the video window in which the movies
are displayed. Either version will run on either class machine.
If you find video performance unacceptable using the faster machine
version, try the slower machine version by running the SETUP.EXE
program again.
Note: For "Laurel with a Moral" to run correctly, you must have
the 11/29/94 or later version of Video for Windows Runtime
installed on your system. To install the version of Video
for Windows Runtime included on the CD-ROM:
1) Load Windows and make sure you're in Program Manager
2) Click on "File"
3) Click on "Run"
4) In the dialogue box, type:
D:\VFWSETUP\SETUP (In place of "D:" put the drive
letter of your CD-ROM player.)
5) Click on "OK" or press {ENTER}
After you have successfully run VFWSETUP, execute the main SETUP
program as illustrated below. You will be given the option of
installing either version of "Laurel with a Moral" onto your hard
drive (requires approximately 3 megabytes of available hard drive
space), or you may choose the option of creating a Program Manager
group and icon for either application to be run entirely from the
CD-ROM. If you install using a CD-ROM drive with one letter and
wish to run the program from another drive letter at a later time,
you can either reinstall the program or use the "Change CD Drive"
menu command from within the program itself.
To install "Laurel with a Moral":
1) Load Windows and make sure you're in Program Manager
2) Click on "File"
3) Click on "Run"
4) In the dialogue box, type:
D:\SETUP (In place of "D:" put the drive
letter of your CD-ROM player.)
5) Click on "OK" or press {ENTER}
6) Follow the prompts. You will be given the opportunity to
choose from among the four different installation options:
1. Install version for 486 and Pentiums onto hard drive
2. Install version for 386 onto hard drive
3. Install Program Manager icon for 486/Pentium version
4. Install Program Manager icon for 386 version
(Options 1 & 2 require 3 meg available hard drive space;
options 3 & 4 will run "Laurel" directly from the CD.)
7) Start "Laurel with a Moral" by double-clicking on its icon.
To view the movies, simply select a channel by clicking on the
remote control. There are 12 movies to watch, each is associated
with a channel number. Movies can be paused by means of the stop
sign button, started again with the green light button, or played
in reverse by clicking on the left-pointing arrow button. Click on
a character such as the bear or soldier to animate it. If your
computer is not fast enough to play the animation at the same time
as it displays the movie, then the movie will take priority and the
animation will be delayed or skipped.
